ATM Compliance & Upgrades in New York
ADA accessibility, EMV chip compliance, Windows 10/11 OS upgrades, and firmware patches that keep your machine processing and penalty-free.
ATM compliance isn't a one-time box to check — it's a moving target. Card networks update EMV requirements, Microsoft retires operating systems, and ADA accessibility rules govern everything from keypad height to voice guidance. An ATM that was compliant when it was installed can quietly fall behind and start declining transactions or exposing you to liability. NY ATM Solutions audits and upgrades retail ATMs across New York State so your machine stays current.
We work on machines we placed, machines you own, and machines from other providers. After a quick assessment of the make, model, and current firmware, we tell you exactly what's out of date and what it takes to bring the unit back into spec — no upselling parts you don't need.
What a compliance upgrade covers
Most upgrades fall into one of a few buckets. We bundle whatever your machine needs into a single visit so the ATM is only down briefly.
- EMV chip card compliance — card reader and firmware updates so the machine accepts chip cards and avoids liability shift declines.
- ADA accessibility — voice guidance headphone jacks, Braille keypads, reachable controls, and compliant screen height.
- Operating system upgrades — moving end-of-life Windows CE or Windows 7 machines onto Windows 10 or 11 supported platforms.
- Software and firmware updates — current processor software, security patches, and network requirement updates.
- PCI security review — encrypting PIN pad (EPP) checks and key injection where required.
Why falling behind costs you money
A non-compliant ATM doesn't always fail loudly. More often it starts declining a slice of transactions — a chip card that won't read, a network that rejects an outdated firmware version — and you lose surcharge revenue without an obvious cause. End-of-life operating systems are worse: once a processor drops support for an OS, the machine can stop settling entirely.
ADA gaps carry a different kind of risk. Accessibility requirements are enforceable, and a machine that isn't reachable or doesn't offer voice guidance can expose the location owner to complaints. Catching these in a scheduled upgrade is far cheaper than dealing with them after the fact.
Assessment before you spend
Some older machines are worth upgrading and some are better replaced. We give you an honest read. If a unit needs a new card reader, an EPP, and an OS migration, the math sometimes favors a certified refurbished or new machine instead. When that's the case we'll say so and quote both paths so you can decide. If the machine just needs a firmware push and a keypad, we handle it on the spot.
ATM Compliance & Upgrades — FAQ
How do I know if my ATM is still EMV compliant?
Send us the make, model, and current firmware version, or let us run a quick on-site check. If the card reader rejects chip cards or the firmware predates current network requirements, the machine needs an EMV update.
My ATM still runs Windows 7 — is that a problem?
Yes. Windows 7 and Windows CE are end-of-life, which means no security patches and, increasingly, no processor support. We migrate eligible machines to Windows 10 or 11; units that can't be migrated should be replaced.
Do you handle ADA accessibility upgrades?
Yes. We add voice guidance headphone jacks, Braille and tactile keypads, and adjust positioning so controls and screens meet reachability requirements.
